You often need to send one signal to multiple destinations. Options for doing this include using dedicated multiples, free-floating widgets with multiple jacks wired together, or fancy cables that allow you plug one or two extra cables into them.
Many banana style cables are constructed that each plug has a jack built into its back, allowing you to plug another cable directly in top of the original plug.
